Secondary multimedia instruction in elementary algebra / Sister Zosima L. Escolano

Abstract / Excerpt:

Abstract: The main concern of this study is to determine the effect of multimedia instruction in Elementary Algebra on the academic performance of the first year high school students at Saint Peter's College of Toril, Toril, Davao City during the school year 2002-2003. Statistically, there is no significant difference between the student's academic performance of those exposed to multimedia instruction and those taught the traditional method in the areas of Algebraic Expressions, Mathematical Sentences and Equations, and Inequalities. The perceived extraneous variables like students' intelligence quotient, computer skills, attitudes and disposition during the administration of the pretest-posttest, comprehension level and their ability to solve mathematical problems with the use of multimedia instructional devices might have affected the result. These should be considered if the study will be replicated in the higher level and in all the other subject areas. The result of the study will serve as a motivating factor for the teachers to make use of the opportunities provided by the school for training through their faculty development program particularly in the use of multimedia instructional devices and other forms of technology. The administrators could also look into the possibility of improving the computer program as a separate subject and all the other multimedia technology.
