Age structure dynamics and saving rates in the Philippines

Abstract / Excerpt:

This is a study explaining a spurious relationship that exists between the age structure of the Philippine population and its aggregate savings rate. Subjected to the research was the entire Philippine population its age structure and the changes in its demographic composition. Nominal savings, as a percentage of nominal GDP (and GNP), was the variable dependent on the changes in the age composition of the population. It has been found out there actually is exist a positive relationship between the percentage of economically active population and savings rates in the Philippines. The results served as basis for general policy recommendations made at the end of the study.
