Children of OFW: Economic characteristics and perception on some selected migration issues

Abstract / Excerpt:

OBJECTIVES:
1.) To present a profile of the children of OFW studying in Ateneo de Davao University in terms of:
a) Socio-demographic characteristics
b) Socio-demographic profile of the respondents' households
c) Economic characteristics of respondent's household

2.) To present the economic behavior of the respondents on:
a) Consumer preferences for personal things like clothes, accessories, cell phones, foods, leisure and personal items;
b) Consumer expenditure for personal things like clothes, accessories, cell phones, foods, leisure and personal items;
c) Savings behavior; d) Income earning activities.

3.) To determine respondent's perception on migration issues such as:
a) Family relationship;
b) Changes in gender roles;
c) preference to go abroad;
d) Changes on household spending;
e) desire to organize a student organization for children of OFW;
f) Effects on global crisis in relation to consumption and savings of the respondents and their households;
g) Perceived benefits as OFW children;
h) Perceived Difficulties as OFW children;

4.) To identify the factors which help the respondents to cope with the difficulties posed by migration;
