Abstract / Excerpt:

Maning Chiew, that's how his friends call him, that's how he likes to be called, says he started out life in reverse. And though he
has strongly Oriental features, that's not being inscrutable in his case. Where most start out as architects and end up as building contractors, Maning started out as a building contractor and ended up an architect.

That was back in 1954, when he set up Manuel N. Chiew Associates, a construction firm. He was two years out of college, with a
BS in Civil Engineering degree from the Mapua Institute of Technology.
