Abstract / Excerpt:
Objectives: This study attempts to determine the existing condition and to identify the basic problems affecting the structural ceramics industry in Davao City.
Methodology: Descriptive statistical tools such as mean and frequency distribution were utilized in the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered.
Conclusions: Most of the structural ceramic producers are faced with the problem of irregularity of supply of the primary raw materials. This is annually caused by weather distortions, inadequate survey on the location, kind, quality of existing raw materials and importation of locally non-available raw materials. Structural ceramics industry is a labor-intensive industry. Almost all producers rely on the manual processing and their methods and techniques in making the products are crude, tedious and laborious. Among the marketing variables, pricing, which is cost-oriented, is given more consideration by the producers compared to the distribution and promotional aspects. Majority of the structural ceramic producers have plans to expand their businesses within the next two years. Included in their plans are: acquisition of additional fixed aspects which can be in the form of land, building or modern equipments, diversification of products, and employment of additional labor. The necessary funds for these expansion plans ranging from P100,000.00 to P2,000,000.00, will be financed through savings and loans either from private/government banks or from relatives/acquaintances.
