Towards the advancement of tertiary introductory physics teachers, hopes, dreams, and passion

Abstract / Excerpt:

Using qualitative inquiry techniques, the study explores the introductory physics teachers' preparation and growth; struggles and coping mechanisms; hopes, dreams, and passions. Likewise, the study describes the administration dynamics of the introductory physics teachers' immediate administrators in selected CHED recognized colleges and universities in Davao City. Findings highlight some inconsistencies between the respondents' academic background and their current subject if instruction, which is introductory physics. Nevertheless, some respondents claim that their long years of experience in handling introductory physics have made them competent to teach the subject. Findings also note the commitment and passion that the respondents' have for their profession. Some of them hope that their students will realize the applicability of physics in everyday living. From the findings, the study proposes a Professional Advancement Portfolio for the improvement of the introductory physics teachers in Davao City. This portfolio, however, is suggestive rather than conclusive due to the qualitative design of the study.
