Abstract: The study was done to determine the effects of games on the academic performance in Physics of the fourth year high school students for the school year 1998-1999 at Cor Jesu College. Two sections were assigned as respondents of the study. The above average class was assigned as the control group and the average class was chosen as experimental group because prior to the treatment the pretest of the experimental group were significantly lower than the control group, if they can catch up with the level of the control group. The finding of the study showed that the t-test of the mean gain scores between the experimental and control group is not significant, that is, the mean gain score of the two groups are equivalent. The pretest of the experimental group were significantly lower than the control group, was able to catch up with the control group. Hence, the treatment was effective. This finding led to the conclusion that the use of games as laboratory activities was effective because they were able to catch up with the performance of the control group, who performed better in the pretest.
