Spectroscopic analysis of gunshot residues to establish culpability in firing guns

Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: This study aims to verify whether thresholds of gunshot metallic residues values, like for instance, lead, barium and antimony collected under Philippine tropical condition from the hands of firers and proximal bystanders analyzed by atomic absorption/flame emission spectrometer (AAS/FES) instrument are the same as those accepted by United States Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory (USACIL) as the lower limit of concentration for culpability as firer. Secondary to the above purpose is the characterization and correlation of the threshold of GSR concentrations from the hands of the firer, from the hands of the proximal bystander and from the hands of those who have not fired a gun (handblankers).
