Abstract / Excerpt:
This study then aims to know the symbolisms of the dagmay motifs, analyzing them in the light of the rituals and myths that surround dagmay weaving. In this way, the dagmay can be appreciated better for what it is, first, as an art form, then as a vehicle towards fuller understanding of the Mandaya tribe and its culture.
Methodology: This chapter presents the methods used in the collection, transcription, translation and analysis of the data gathered on the subject of the dagmay textile of the Mandaya tribe in Caraga, Davao Oriental.
The Mandayas of Caraga are themselves divided into different groups or clans. At one point in their history, most of them were converted to the Christian religion. This conversion led to an ingenious blending of christian and tribal beliefs,
