Abstract / Excerpt:

Abstract: This study was conducted to determine if there was an improvement in the academic achievements of pupils using Student Tean Achievement Division (STAD) as a strategy in teaching Grade IV Mathematics. The subject, of this study were the two sections of Grade IV class with a total of 68 pupils of Doroluman Elementary School, Arakan District, Cotabato Division. Both sections were taught the same subject matter using STAD as a strategy in teaching Mathematics. The baseline of the data was the NDT pre-test result conducted last July 2, 2002 to all two sections of Grade IV. The duration of the study was from January 27 to February 7, 2003. Posttest was given at the end of the implementation using the same questionnaire as of pre-test. The pretest and posttest scores were computed and analyzed to determine if there was a significant difference in the academic achievements of pupils in Mathematics. The computed t-value was 2.922 greater than the table value of 2.353 at the 0.05 level of significance. Since the computed t-value was greater than the tabular value the result of the study has a significant difference. The null hypothesis was rejected at the 0.05 level of significance, and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. This study has a significant difference using STAD as a strategy in teaching Grade IV Mathematics. So, STAD has greatly improved the academic achievements of pupils in Mathematics at Doroluman Elementary school.
