Abstract / Excerpt:
This study sought to describe the experiences of overseas Filipino workers, who have been displaced due to the global financial crisis, in their return back to the country. It included their availment of the OWWA Reintegration Programs, before, during and after. It made used of the descriptive research design using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study was conducted among forty-four (44) respondents out of the eighty (80) target respondents.The findings of the study include that majority of the respondents are females, whose main reason for their return to the country is the global financial crisis; had a hard time to adjust upon returning to the country because of the absence of a job and a family to support. Because of this, the respondents asked for assistance from OWWA. Furthermore, the study also found out that it is easy to avail of the assistance from the agency and that this assistance have been helpful for the respondents and their families in terms of providing them with the means to cope up financially.The study recommends that there is a need for extensive orientation for OFWs, especially the women, prior to their departure as a preventive measure for them. Moreover, the inclusion of savings in these orientations and the collection of premium from the government should be given emphasis so that in the event of any unwanted circumstances, they would have financial security.
