Abstract / Excerpt:
This study aims to verify whether or not there is as existing roadmap in Davao City when it comes to MDG 5 as well as the reasons behind its success for being one of the best places to become a mother in the Philippines. Davao City has made its own promising practices and activities in order to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services to pregnant women. These actions made by the city lead towards its main goal of achieving zero maternal health by 2015 which is also the target year of MDG's. The study used quantitative research design in gathering data which was done through a survey given to the healthcare respondents. The data was also validated and deepened by conducting Focus Group Discussions to the three Legislative districts of Davao City and key informant interview for medical doctors. The respondents of the study were nurses, midwives and doctors in healthcare centers in Davao City. The result of the study shows that there are no specific roadmaps in Davao City when it comes to MDG 5 because it is not articulated as such by the City Health Office. However, there are series of projects and programs that lead towards the achievement of MDG 5 and Davao City's roadmap to MDG 5. Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that there should be an increase in the percentage of budget allocated for health as well as to expand the recipient of the trainings and seminars to include even the newly hired and contractual workers. The government should also provide vehicles and construct more roads to allow access on far-flung areas.
