Abstract / Excerpt:
The Magsaysay Park is Davao City's premier public recreation place. Built in the memory of the late President Ramon Magsaysay, the park has served the general population of the city for many years now. Unfortunately, with the advent of modern shopping malls, the decline of the park's image and the detrioration of its facilities, Magsaysay Park has suffered the decrease in patronage among Davaoeños. Being the only major park in Davao City, the status of Magsaysay Park reflects the populations' orientation with urban landscaping and nature appreciations. With the loss of such, Davao City faces future as a concrete jungle. The redevelopment of Magsaysay Park and its subsequent expansion and conversion into a waterfront park aims to bring park appreciation back into the culture of Davaeoños. It aims to strengthen Davao's bid in facing the modern 21st century as an international destination whose residents and visitors enjoy modern yet nature oriented lifestyle.
