Feasibility study on cement-bonded board production from Durian pericarp.

Abstract / Excerpt:

Durian pericarp is an economical source of fibers. Its quality can be compared to the fibers form the other sources, such as the lumber. Hence, the production of fiberboard from durian pericarp promises cheaper, yet good quality particle boards that can be used for construction. Furthermore, the success of this study will establish that durian pericarp can also be a factor in the improvement of solid waste management of the city. DuroBoard can serve as a good substitute for concrete hollow blocks, plywood, plyboard, and other wood products. It is very versatile material that can be used as eaves, exterior wall, ceiling, partition wall, flooring and even roofing.
