Abstract: Huang, Gieh, Ng, university of the Philipiines at Los Baños, June, 1975. allelopathetic effects of Chromolaena odorata (L.) R. M. King and H. robinson. Major professor : Dr. Percy E. Sajise. In the field, Chromolaena odorata characteristically grew closely and desely together, forming an impenetrable thicket to the exclusion of most other species. Seedlings, herbs and grasses abound in the adjacent fields were not found under the canopy of its stand. No differences between soil nitrogen and phosphorus levels inside and outside of the Chromolaena stand were detected. Light intensity under the canopy was however only 2.7% that above the canopy. Steam distillation fractioned inhibitors in the chromolaena leaf extract into two classes, the volatile ones in the steam distillate and the non-volatile ones in the residual fraction.
