Experiences of teenage mothers in Davao City

Abstract / Excerpt:

ABSTRACT: This study is focused on describing the experiences of teenage mothers in Davao City, specifically from the University of Mindanao and Ateneo de Davao University. It aimed to describe and produce information about the psychosocial experiences, difficulties encountered and coping mechanisms of teenage mothers. The researchers conducted an in-depth interview to the respondents. The study utilized a descriptive design. There are twenty (20) respondents from University of Mindanao and Ateneo de Davao University. Common reasons of why teenage women become pregnant are indicated in this study and are based on the personal views of the respondents. The study found out that most of the respondents developed a sense of maturity when they become parents. The experiences encountered by the respondents, eventually teach them how to handle difficult situation such as becoming teenage mothers. Thus, at the end of this study, the researchers able to come up some recommendations that for the prevention of teenage pregnancies, certain Local Government Units (LGU), Government Organizations (GO), and Non-Government Organizations (NGO) should responsibly respond to the needs especially of young people for enough education, trainings, seminars and other necessary services that could assist these people in becoming responsible and educated parents in their time.
