Abstract / Excerpt:
This study deals with the experiences and job satisfaction of teachers in Baubo Elementary School particularly on working conditions; work itself; advancement in work; pay; and interpersonal relationships. The study employed the qualitative descriptive research design using an in-depth interview guide. Experiences of teachers show that they somehow have difficulties in commuting from their residence to the school and vice-versa because of the road conditions going to Sitio Baubo; residing in the area since there is no available house for teachers. Work itself is a big challenge amidst the pupils' varied background and personalities, the dilapidated state of the classrooms, desks that need repair, textbooks that are not available to aid teaching; handling multigrade classes as well as having meager salaries between P3,000.00 - P16,635.00. The experiences of the teacher in dealing with the community are positive although there were times that they felt frustrated. Overall, level of job satisfaction among teachers is low for locally paid teachers while moderate for those who are on permanent status. The study finds it important to consider further studies such as the conduct of the same study in comparison to teachers from an urban setting; on the area of relationship between the school and the community wherein participants can talk about expectations placed on them by the school and community; and a description of the teacher's relationship with administration.
