Characterizing the school heads of Loreto North District

Abstract / Excerpt:

This study identifies the characteristic of the school heads of Loreto North District, their profile as school administrators, the challenges they met in the field of leadership and supervision and their expressed needs in attaining the quest of education for All (EFA) goal. moreover, this study is anchored on John Carrousel qualitative study. The profile of the nine head teachers such as the number of years in service as classroom teacher, teacher-In-Charge and Head Teacher as well as the Performance Appraisal System of School Administrator (PASSA) had been collected. Also, data regarding the challenges experienced by the administrators as well as their expressed needs had been examined to verify how they characteristics of the administrators. The research findings showed that there were school heads who became administrators without following the guidelines on the selection, promotion and designation of school heads. It also revealed that administrators facing different challenges in supervisory and administrative work specially those who are new to nature of work. It was vindicated also the important of trainings/seminars to be attended by them, physical and ancillary facilities constructed in school and technical support from stakeholders in influencing the chances of the quality of education. Basing the guidelines in designating school heads is only a key factor to avoid difficulties in running the school. Therefore, I imply to rolled out the DepEd Order no. 42, series of 2007 in my division.
