Abstract: The study was conducted to determine the influence of the increasing levels of phosphorus fertilizer added to soil on available P; determine the relationship between available phosphorus and the phosphorus take of corn; correlate the phosphorus uptake of corn and its dry weight; and compare the analysis results of modified Olsen method and Bray & Kurtz no. 2 method in assessing the level of the available P of soil used. It was conducted at Davao City, from May to June 2001. Results of the analyses revealed that the increasing P levels applied to soil significantly increased the available P of soil one week after application. The different phosphorus rates: 0, 13.4, 26.8, 53.6, and 80.5 ppm produced available P of 7.06, 19.08, 38.38, 50.29, 62.17 ppm (Olsen) and 12.95, 21.60, 35.63, 66.59, 69.55, pp, (Bray & Kurtz no. 2) respectively, while in the same order, P uptake of corn were 4.87, 11.88, 23.73, 30.29 and 32.69 mg/plant. Dry matter yields were observed to increase with an increase of P uptake of corn with mean yields of 4.23, 8.14, 12.07, 13.45 and 13.82 g/pot. Highest available P, P uptake and dry matter yields were observed at the highest P (80.5 ppm) application. Lowest available P, P uptake and dry matter yields were obtained at 0 ppm P application. The increasing P levels were significantly correlated with the available P of soil using the Modified Olsen method and the Bray & Kurtz no. 2 method. Significant correlation was obtained between the P uptake of corn and the available P of soil. Likewise, P uptake of corn and dry matter yield was also significantly correlated. The Bray and kurtz no. 2 method showed a high percentage recovery of spiked samples than that of Modified Olsen method and that was statistically significant.
