A cheap source of acetic acid as latex coagulant

Abstract / Excerpt:

Objective: This study attempts to find out if vinegar from coconut petioles can be another source of acetic acid to coagulate the latex.

Methodology: The experiment was conducted in the Chemistry laboratory of AdDU. The processing of coagulum was done in Samahang Nayon Hydro-electric rubber plant, Malasila, Makilala, North Cotabato.

Conclusions: a) The time of coagulation can not compete with commercial acetic acid used as a standard coagulant. b) The color of the serum is all whitish which indicates incompleteness of coagulation. c) The vinegars from young coconut petioles can not help the rubber industry in producing a more or less good to superior quality of PC. d) White and brown sugars have no significant effects on the fermentation of coconut petioles. e) The unknown acid from the fermented young coconut petioles is a very dilute acetic acid.
