Mycoherbicide control of itch grass (Rottboellia cochinchinensis L.) with Fusarium moniliforme (Sheldon)

Annotation

A study determines the potential of Fusarium moniliforme (Sheldon) to control two-week and four-week old Rottboellia cochinchinensis (L.). Major findings of the study include: (1) The application of 10,000 conidia/mL of F. moniliforme controlled two weeks old itch grass 35 DAI with a mean severity infection of 68.13 percent and therefore can be used as a substitute to commercial herbicides, (2) Moreover, although 12,000 conidia/mL and 5,000 conidia/mL also revealed infection, they did not however completely control itch grass. F. moniliforme failed to infect four-week old itch grass hence not considered a potential mycoherbicide.
