Morphometric description, feeding system and management practices of carabaos in Mindanao

Annotation

The study aims to determine the following: 1) weight and other body characteristics of the Philippine carabao in Mindanao, 2) present feeding and management practices, 3) the relationship between weight and the different body measurement. Tethering is the principal feeding system practiced throughout the year. Paragrass is the most commonly grazed grass of carabaos followed by some edible weeds, cogon and napier. Table salt is used as mineral supplement. About 31.63 percent farmers practice immunization against hemorrhagic septicemia and 62.5 percent practiced parasite control by deworming. Carabaos are weaned naturally. It can be said conclusively that there occurred a regression in size of the Philippine carabao.
