Abstract / Excerpt:

This study focused on the views and experiences of the settlers in Barangay Miranda, Island Garden City of Samal. It gathered their views of the settlers in terms of the economic situation, services given by the government and effects to the family of the settlers as well as the experiences of the settlers in access to health, education, housing and job opportunities, the difficulties encountered and coping strategies of the settlers being resettled. Focus Group Discussion was conducted among the 50 settlers relocated to Brgy. Miranda. Findings of the study show that the settlers views their economic situation as a turtle economy, difficulties to the distance of the place to the usual place they have before and how they help the family of the settlers through relocation. Experiences they have the access to health by availing it in the Barangay Health Center , the access to education that they avail it through scholarship given by the government and the Alternative Learning System (ALS) given by the Department of Education in the Island Garden City of Samal. This study recommends consideration of the respondents' situation as settlers of Barangay Miranda in the development of services provided by the government and non-government agencies in the Island Garden City of Samal
