Abstract / Excerpt:
This study aimed to find indigenous wastes which can be recycled as feed supplement for broilers. Specifically, this study used ramie decorticating wastes. After the ramie was decorticated, they were dried and ground and mixed with commercial mash. Four treatments were used - 0% ramie wastes, 10% ramie wastes, 15% ramie wastes, and 20% ramie wastes. There were two replicates for each treatment with three Peterson broilers in each. The growth of the broilers was compared after forty five days. Three trials were conducted. Chemical analysis of ramie decorticating wastes done by the AdDU Chemistry Research Laboratory included data on moisture, ash, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, carbohydrates, and nitrogen free extract. The data used in the feeding analysis were the folloeing: weight gain of the broilers in the different treatments. These data were subjected to analysis of variance using one-way ANOVA. Results of the statistical analysis showed that the growth of the broilers are not significantly different among the treatments. The same result were obtained in the statistical analysis of feed consumption and FCR. The broilers showed no preference to any of the feed mixtures given and the amount of feeds the consume to gain 1 gram of weight did not vary significantly among the treatments. Thus,t eh researchers concluded the ramie decorticating wastes can be used as feed supplement for broilers.
