Abstract / Excerpt:
The Matigsalug, sub-group of the Manobo, has been just recently recognized last 2007 as one of the indigenous people of Davao City. This paper has attempted to know more about these people and importantly, about their unwritten and still orally practiced literature. To preserve these materials of culture, they should be documented before they are gone. This study has presented eight Matigsalug folktales and has classified them. The folktales had been gathered through interviews and they had been analyzed structurally and thematically to determine the socio-cultural realities of the Matigsalugs reflected in them.
