Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: This study specifically aims to determine the degree of traffic congestion of Gatesway Online's 128 kbps leased line in comparison with the Globe, Skyinet and Moscom Internet Service Provider using Packet Inter-Network Groper (PING) utility software of Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT Operating System and the Multi-Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) utility software for the main server of the ISP. Methodology: The researcher used the Bit Error Rate Testing Equipment, Packet Inter-Network Gropher (PING), and Multi-Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) for this study. Conclusions: Based on the test results with the aid of Ping and Mrtg utilities, it has presented the degree of traffic congestion among the four ISP's operating in the City of Davao, therefore: Gatesway Online got the highest level of traffic congestion among the other three ISP's. This indicates that Gatesway Online must have to take action in improving their system. It is also a basis for developing more technical strategies in order to avoid congestion in their communication link in the near future.
