The Social functioning of rape victims: Before and after the intervention

Abstract / Excerpt:

This research is focused in determining the social functioning of rape victims before and after the intervention. It employed a descriptive design and a qualitative approach, with the study's locale limited only within the Reception Study and Diagnostic Center (RSDC) in Mati, Davao Oriental. The unit of analysis was the responses gathered from the ten (10) rape victims currently served by the said agency through in-depth interview. Supporting information from existing case studies therein was also utilized. The data was then analyzed in a thematic and narrative form. Its highlights entail the significant changes spotted on the victims' self-worth and their enhanced role performance but still with the prevalence of dysfunction in terms of their social relationships. Important recommendations include the agency's need for a more effective and concrete framework as basis of their program design, additional manpower, inclusion of Family Intervention in their plan of action and the conduction of further research on incest, specifically, in rural areas as well as the possible solutions to this problem.
