Abstract: The main problem of this study was to determine the correlation between the Emotional Quotient scores and Personal Adjustment scores of the intellectually gifted second year high school students of Philippine Science High School. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1.)What is the profile of the respondents in terms of IQ level, gender, perceived socio-economic status, family structure; 2.) Is there a significant relationship between the Emotional Quotient scores nad Personal Adjustment scores of the respondents as a whole group; 3.) Is there a significant relationship between the Emotional Quotient scores and Personal Adjustment scores of the respondnets when grouped according to IQ level: average, above average, superior, very superior; Gender: male, female; Socio-economic status: low income, middle-income, high-income; Family Structure; living with only one parent, living with both parents, living with relatives. The respondents of this study were 89 of the 90 second year high school students of the Philippines Science High-School-Southerb Mindanao Campus, School Year 2004-2005. The instruments used were the Bar-on Emotional Quotient Inventory: Youth Version; 16 Personality Factor Test and Culture-Fair Intelligence Tests. Using frequency count and percentage, Person Product Moment Correlation and t-test for significance as statistical tools the folliwing findings were derived: most of the second year high school students of PSHS-SMC belong ot the middle income family who are living with both parents. As a whole group, the Emotional Quotientscores and Personal Adjustments scores of the respondents show a significant high correlation which means the emotional condition ardently affect personality formation. In other words, the higher the emotional quotient of the gifted students, the more personally adjustments they are.
However, when grouped according to IQ level, the average gifted showed a significant very high correlation between their EQ and PA scores while the above average gifted and very superior gifted show a significant moderate correlation. The superior gifted showed an insignificant low correlation. With reagard to gender, gifted male students showed a significant high correlation in their scores compared to their female counterparts. Students who belong to low-income and high-income statuses showed an insignificant relationship while those who belong to middle-income showed a significant relationship. The family structure reveals a significant high correlation among those gifted students who are living with both parents.
