The effects of Holistic Counseling in reducing stress

Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: The study focused on the effectiveness of holistic counseling in reducing stress among some college teachers of the Holy Cross of Davao College for school year 1989-1990. It answer the question: Can holistic counseling bring about change in a stressed person after the treatment process?
Methodology: The study used the pretest-posttest control group design(Campbell and Stanley; 1966).
Conclusions: The following conclusions are drawn: (1) Holistic counseling through acupressure therapy for the physical dimension with vital signs feedback is effective in maintaining heart rate. (2) Holistic counseling is effective in modifying the negative self-statements to positive ones thereby bringing the subjects' MMPI-Hypochondriasis scale scores to a functional level between 40-60 scle scores. (3) Holistic counseling is effective in bringing the MMPI-Emotionality and hostility Scale scores to a functional level between 40-60 scale scores. (4)Holistic counseling is effective in bringing the subjects' MMPI-Social Introversion Scale scores to functional level between 40-60 scale scores. (5) Emotional and socio-behavioral stresses as proven by the results of this experimental study. (6) male and female subjects have the same degree of reduction of stress.
