Abstract / Excerpt:
The primary aim of the study is to determine the logistics integration competencies that are significantly associated with the supply chain performance of Philippines food packaging firms. The specific objectives of the study include determining whether logistics capabilities of Philippine food packaging firms statistically represent the concepts of logistics integration competencies and competencies; identifying logistics capabilities their level of logistics capabilities and competencies; identifying logistics capabilities and competencies that significantly affect individual measures of firm performance; determining whether Philippine food firms adopt logistics strategies; determining whether firms benchmark their logistics performance relative to their competitors; and identifying clusters of firms that are formed based on logistics competencies. It was found out that in the case of Philippine food packaging firms, the logistics capabilities defined in the Supply Chain 2000 framework do not statistically represent the concepts of logistics integration competencies. The study also showed that respondent Philippine food packaging firms have higher levels of logistics capabilities than international firms, except in the areas of Connectivity, Functional Assessment, and Gain/Risk Sharing. In terms of logistics competencies than international firms in all measures of logistics integration. Fourteen logistics capabilities of Philippine food packaging firms are found to be positively associated with firm performance, namely Segmental Focus, Relevancy, Responsiveness, Cross-Functional Unification, Structural Adaptation, Strategic Alignment, Financial Linkage, Internal Communication, Connectivity, Activity-based and Total Cost Methodology, Comprehensive Metrics, Financial Impact, Information Sharing, and Gain/Risk Sharing. The most influential capabilities are Cross-Functional Unification and Financial Impact.
Five logistics capabilities were shown to be negatively associated with firm performance, namely Segmental Focus, Cross-Functional Unification, Operational Fusion, Information Management, and Role Specificity. The study also revealed that the two logistics integration competencies are positively associated with firm performance namely, Measurement Integration and Relationship Integration. The most influential competency is Relationship Integration. Two competencies Integration and Technology and Planning Integration. In terms of logistics strategy, it was determined that there is no significant difference in the perception of logistics personnel of Philippine food packaging firms benchmark their logistics performance relative to their competitors in the areas of Logistics Cost, Productivity, Customer Service, and Logistic Quality. The study also showed that Philippine food packaging firms form two district clusters in terms of their level of logistics integration competencies. Luster 1 firms prioritize Technology and Planning Integration, while Cluster 2 firms prioritize Customer Integration.
