Supplemental readings and workbook in Mathematics IV / Enrico B. Abo

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the use of supplemental readings and the workbook in Mathematics IV on the academic achievement of fourth year highschool students. This study made use of the randomized-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. Test results were item analyzed using the Statistical packages for Social Sciences which gives a reliability coefficient of 0.7258. Findings of the study have shown that there is no significant difference in the academic achievement of students in mathematics IV as shown by the mean gain scores among the three groups namely: Experimental group I, Experimental group II and control group. In view of the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: (1) Students among the three groups have improved their academic achievement in Mathematics IV regardless of the instructional tool used in teaching each selected topic in Mathematics IV considered in the study. (2) Students among the three groups have improved their academic achievements regardless of the instructional tool used in teaching all the selected topics in Mathematics IV considered in the study.
