Abstract / Excerpt:
This study was done to answer the following objectives: (1) is to determine the frequency of exposure of 3rd year to fourth year Addu students on Shock Radio in Killer Bee 89.1 FM ; (2) to determine their perceptions and opinions in terms of obscenity, gender sensitivity in relation to Shock Radio; (3) to determine if there is a significant relationship between their perceptions on sexual issues when they are grouped according to their socio and religio-cultural demographics; (4) to know the respondents' suggestions or comments on Shock Radio aired in this station. In order to address thy objectives, the researchers used the Snowball sampling method to determine the number of respondents who meet the criterion for inclusion in the study. Basically, the researchers looked for respondents who listen to Shock Radio on Killer Bee 89.1 FM. The researchers analyze and interpret the data gathers through different statistical treatments. The findings showed that among the 168 respondents who answered the questionnaires, most of them are exposed to Shock Radio on Killer Bee 89.1 FM thrice a week. Most of the respondents agreed that there are obscene contents on these shows. However, they also agreed that the show is gender sensitive, practically relevant and religio-culturally sensitive. The researchers also found out that there is no significant relationship between their perceptions on sexual issues when they are grouped according to their socio and religio-cultural demographics. Most of the respondents suggested that the program should be firmly regulated.
