Abstract: The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of Student Teams-Achievement Division on the mastery of science concepts of grade-IV pupils of Manobo Elementary School for the school year 2002, 2003. The study sought to answer the question: Is there a significant difference between the academic achievement of pupils using the Student Teams Achievement Divisions as a cooperative learning strategy? The hypothesis was : There is no significant difference between the academic achievement of the pupils using the Student-Teams Achievement Division as a cooperative learning strategy. The study focused on 30 pupils. The instrument used is the National Diagnostic Test made by the National Educational Testing Research Center (NETRC) for the use of grade-IV pupils in the entire Philippines. The t-test is used to measure the significant difference in the NDT mean scores between the pre-test and post-test. The following finding was derived: Student Teams-Achievement Division has a significant effect on the mastery of science concepts of pupils. Based from the above findings, it is therefore concluded that the use of Student Teams-Achievement Division (STAD) help students develop a better mastery of science concepts.
