Struggles and emancipation of Ateneo Foreign Students in Learning the English Language

Abstract / Excerpt:

The study focuses on the struggles and emancipation of the Ateneo de Davao University's foreign students on learning the English language. This study describes the struggles of Ateneo foreign students while learning the English language, their process in undergoing the emancipation from their struggles in learning the English language in terms of functionality, productivity and sustainability of the language after it was acquired, the factors/elements that facilitated in the emancipation and learning the second language and how their base language was affected as a result. The researchers selected five foreign students of different nationalities as their respondents. The respondents then participated in separate in-depth interviews. Questions regarding the related aims above were asked to the respondents, all of whom revealed their experiences in Second Language Learning. The data analysis and interpretation led to findings that the learning process affected the respondents' social, academic, and emotional health.
