The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between socio- economic factors and smoking uptake of the 4th year nursing students of the Ateneo de Davao University. The researchers would like to know what affected their smoking habit, may it be an influence of parents, peers, or monetary allowance. The study aimed to know the socioeconomic factor that influence the respondents in terms of Parental Influence, Peer Influence, and Monetary influence. It also aimed to know their smoking uptake. Most importantly, it seeks to know if there is a significant relationship between Socio-economic factors and the Smoking uptake of the respondents. The researchers used a non-experimental descriptive correlational type of research. The non-probability sampling technique was also used to identify who among the total number of students per section will be chosen as respondents. They arrived at a sample size of 128 respondents from a total population of 186 students. The researchers used a 25-item modified questionnaire. Survey questionnaires were handed to the respondents and the data collected was collated, tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted. The data revealed that most of the respondents are slightly influenced by parental and peer influence, but not with monetary influence; and it was revealed that most of them never smokes. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between socio-economic factor and smoking uptake. With this study, we recommend the college students to be mindful to decide for themselves as young adults and not be drawn towards smoking.
