Selected variables affecting the income of Camiguin Island

Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: This study is focused to investigate the different variables that influence the income of Camiguin Island. The independent variables are crime rate, unemployment rate, literacy, population growth rate and income from tourism. The group aims to gather data sets of information needed in order to come up with a timely, relevant and objective examination of the said subject and be able to arrive at a finding which may be used as a basis for improvement of policies and programs.

Methodology: The study is descriptive and explanatory in nature.

Findings/Conclusions: LITERACY RATE: Increase in the number of teachers in each educational level; the improvement in the textbook-student/pupil ratio, and; the provision/improvement of school buildings, classrooms and other educational facilities. INCOME FROM TOURISM:More and better tourism amenities and facilities were either made available or improved for such purpose. CRIME RATE: In recent years there had been an influx of people in the urban areas where most crimes reported originated. This movement is noted to have caused this said increase due to various implicating reasons. UNEMPLOYMENT RATE: There is a decrease in the unemployment rate in the province which is brought about by the employment of a large portion of the labor force to various job opportunities in the said area. GROSS VALUE ADDED: There was an increase in the gross value added product of the province which was accounted to the increase in agricultural, fisheries, livestock, and poultry production.
