Reading performance of grade VI pupils of Bucac Elementary School

Abstract / Excerpt:

This study was conducted to come up with a profile of the reading performance of the Grade VI pupils enrolled in Bucac Elementary School in school year 2010-2011. This could serve as input to an English Enhancement Program. The Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) results in the oral and silent reading performance in the grade V post test and the grade VI pre test were used in the study. Performance was determined by frequency count and percentage computation. It was found that the reading performance of the pupils fell below Dep-Ed's norm of 75% percentage of the pupils reaching Independent level. In the light of these findings, it is concluded that there is a problem in the reading performance of the pupils and therefore needs an intervention like an English Enhancement Program.
