Abstract / Excerpt:
The primary purpose of this study was to determine whether interventions in the teaching methods using mathematical puzzles and games significantly increase the academic performance of Grade IV pupils in the identified least-learned competencies in Mathematics IV. This study was limited only on the evaluation of the intervention for the least learned competencies in Mathematics IV using mathematical puzzles and games conducted to 71 Grade IV pupils in Aringay Elementary School, Kabacan North District, Division of Cotabato for the School Year 2002-2003. The intervention was based on the theories and concept of learning by doing. T-test, before and after analysis, was used to test the hypothesis. Results showed that puzzles and games were an effective intervention in the division operations rational numbers of fractions, and time measure. Pupils were able to comprehend and learned to analyze and solve problems in mathematics.
