Proposed T’nalak weaving facility: a study of a vanishing cultural symbol

Abstract / Excerpt:

This thesis entitled " Proposed T'nalak Weaving Facility: a study of a vanishing cultural symbol" finally evolved out of a series of choices for studies relevant to the theme " Filipino Architecture in the 21st century: an interpretation and innovation of Filipino architectural form and space." The researcher was inspired by the way South Cotabateños celebrate with joy the T'nalak Festival in commemoration with the founding anniversary of the province. While the festivities were going on, however, news about rescuing the heritage and saving the t'nalak craft from extinction can be read in the tabloids. The art is being endangered! the articles point toward solution to save the vanishing cultural symbol. In his own little way, the researcher tried his best to persevere in the furtherance of the study - taking into account the socio-cultural aspects associated with the t'nalak and, likewise, the modifications in architectural design in the needed facility that will, in a way, provide the character of form and space acceptable to the T'bolis, thus preserving their distinction.
