Abstract / Excerpt:
This study looked into the feasibility of the establishment and operation of a prawn fry hatchery in Panabo, Davao del Norte. Specifically, the research study sought to answer the following: How large is the unsatisfied demand for prawn fry in Davao del Norte? Will the formulated marketing program or strategy effectively meet the sales target?, What are the appropriate species, site, facilities and equipment, procedures and management, manpower, and production volume for the economical and successful operation?, Will the organizational set up be optimically effective under the circumstances?, How much will be needed to finance? Where will the funding come from? Will the project be profitable?, Will society and economy derive benefits from the project? Methodology: This study employed descriptive method of research particularly the exploratory inquiries, surveys, follow-up, and requests for tests and confirmation were conducted with fishpond operators, fishermen, fishery technicians, and officers and employees of related government and private entities. Direct observation was made during field trips to prawn hatcheries. Conclusion: It is further recommended that the concerned government and private entities join hands to give seminars and technological assistance, to extend loan to those wanting in funds, and to extend electric services to those affected, so that fish farmers of Davao del Norte may be able to go over obstacles towards intensification in prawn farming.
