Political beliefs of Catholic School administrators and pregnant students’ right to education

Abstract / Excerpt:

This study is about the political beliefs of Catholic school administrators and pregnant students' right to education. It focuses on the views and perspectives of the school administrators pertaining to Philippine laws, both local, national, international laws and declarations. The study also included their views about the school policy on pregnancy without the benefit of marriage. This study dwells on the experiences and recommendations of impregnated college students on the policies of their schools regarding pregnancy outside marriage. The study used both qualitative and quantitative approach. Thematic analysis and axial coding was utilized for the qualitative approach to discover themes and uncover hidden meanings. For the quantitative part, descriptive analysis was used particularly frequency and mean to know the results of the cognitive and affective tests, respectively. Findings show that school administrators accept that everyone is entitled to the right to education as a general thought. In quantitative part, findings show that the school administrators have moderate to high level of knowledge towards the laws. However, when it comes to applying this right on pregnant students, it seems that there is a tension between the laws of the land and the Catholic doctrines. Moreover, it was revealed that these school administrators cannot just create policy that is contradictory to the organizational culture of the School. Given the findings of the study, the researchers recommend to the school administrators to consider reviewing the laws so as to give its compassion and love to everyone as thought by the church and this includes the pregnant students. This was also recommended in order to give value and respect on their rights to education.
