Phosphate level in selected estuarine and coastal waters of Davao City.

Abstract / Excerpt:

Abstract: Concentration of phosphate, pH and temperature were determined for five months in selected estuarine and coastal waters of Davao City. This region has been subject to change due to increasing industrial and domestic activities. The relative phosphate level in each station is used as the basis to arrange the estuary and coastal on its degree of cleanliness. Estuary: Talomo station (cleannest), Ilang, Bucana, Panacan, Matina and Lipadas. Coastal: Panacan, Ilang, Talomo, Bucana, Matina and Lipadas station. The phosphate content in estuarine is grater compared to coastal water samples. Biological contaminants were concentrated in the estuary. There are estuary whose water samples had exceeded its phosphate level set by the Department of Natural Resources for class B frsh water. As the nutrient will continuously discharge into the river, it may accumulate in the estuary the aging process (eutrophication) of water is greatly accelerated. The pH and temperature are tolerable for class B fresh water. The amount of phosphate in estuarine and coastal varies significantly according to stations. t-test revealed that no significant differences on the phosphate content in estuarine and coastal of Talomo, Matina, Bucana and Ilang stations only. The two other stations were the opposite.
