Abstract / Excerpt:

This study, "Perception to Sexual Exploitation and Prostitution", is descriptive type of research that assessed the perception of commercial sex workers of Davao City that are under the supervision of Talikala Organization in terms of sexual exploitation and prostitution. It was conducted to assess their understanding or insight about sexual exploitation and prostitution. There are 30 respondents selected through purposive random sampling and were given survey forms while being interviewed by the researchers at the Talikala office located at Sputnik St., Dona Vicenta Village, Davao City. The findings of the study showed that the perception of commercial sex workers in terms of sexual exploitation and prostitution was good. In terms of the demographic profile of the respondents, most of their ages are raging item 15 to 20 years old, single, Christian in terms of religion, and though a majority of them are high school undergraduates, they still showed good perception to both sexual exploitation and prostitution.Both the Talikala and Lawig Bubai Organizations are conducting different activities to instill knowledge to these commercial sex workers about sexual exploitation and prostitution.Thus, because of these findings, the researchers recommend the commercial sex workers to continue attending on the different activities catered by the two organizations to further widen their knowledge about sexual exploitation and prostitution.The researchers also recommend an improved information dissemination campaign among both the Talikala and Lawig Bubai organizations for an improved movement on minimizing the continued rise on the number of commercial sex workers or even totally eradicating prostitution.
