Abstract / Excerpt:

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to determine the Peer-mediated Instruction and Intervention (PMII) on the academic performance of grade IV pupils in Mathematics for the school year 2002-2003 at Bangbang Elementary School. Specifically, the study sought to answer the question. 1. Does Peer-mediated instruction and intervention have a significant effect in the achievement of pupils in Mathematics IV. The respondents of the study were all the grade IV pupils. The researcher used the National Diagnostic Test (NDT) pretest and posttest result as the main instrument in gathering the data. The findings of the study showed the difference in which post-test result was significantly higher than the pretest result. Hence the treatment was effective. The findings also signified that the use of Peer-mediated instruction and intervention as strategy in teaching Mathematics IV was effective because the result of the post-test was higher than the pretest. In the light of the results of the study, the researcher recommended the following: (1) Peer-mediated instruction and instruction would be continuously used by the teacher in teaching mathematics. (2) More in-service training (INSET) to the teacher particularly on peer-mediated instruction would be conducted.
