Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: This study presents several pointers on pasture improvement particularly under climatic conditions of Mindanao. It is also the purpose of this report to describe the various farm operations related to livestock and pasture management involved in the running of Rancho de las Piedras.
Methodology: The data gathered for this report was based on an ovular observation made in Rancho de las Piedras, Barrio Mantibugao, Manolo Portich, Bukidnon. The data on the management of pasture land was acquired through interviews with the farm supervisor, laborers, and cowboys.
Summary/Conclusions: Rancho de las Piedras has good pasture area, because the methods of pasture improvement are somewhat modernized based on the processing and pasture improvement program. Meantime, this farm will continue with its plant innovation and research work, its propagation and distribution of seed stock of fodder as well as its feeding and feed processing and pasture improvement experiments. Pasture management, as a summary, includes, the proper and well-established farm survey to determine the productivity of the soil. Certain topographical features should also be considered in selecting the site for pasture. The selection of good varieties of grasses and legumes should not be overlooked. The proper and correct management practices should also be carried out for improved pasture, as well as, the grazing method.Lastly, renovation should be done to bring back or add certain nutrients in the soil which were used up with the passing years. In conclusion, the proper and correct improvement of pasture should be implemented by all cattle growers who wish to gain more in their livestock businesses.
