Opinions and experiences of drug users in Davao City

Abstract / Excerpt:

ABSTRACT: The study was conducted to know the experiences and opinions of Drug users to their academic performance, health, social relation and economic status. It covers 20 respondents. It used the descriptive research design and discussed an in-depth analysis of the interconnectedness of the aforementioned variables that constitutes to the experiences of Drug use to the well-being of the adolescents and individuals. The study found out that all of the respondents (20) are male, who are 21 years old, in College and are Roman Catholics, whose fathers are self-employed while their mothers are corporate employees. The respondents first took drugs when they were in high school, influenced by their friends; the drugs they use are usually bought with marijuana as the most common type of drug used because it is cheap and easy to access. These respondents do not consider themselves as an addict; some are willing to stop using drugs; while many still refused to stop because for them drugs taste good, makes them happy, and helps them to forget their problems. The respondents view that the use of prohibited drugs is an increasing problem in our society; that it is a key factor when students encounter problems with their course work; and, that it is among the root causes that lead to misunderstanding in the family, discontentment and misguided principles. Finally, the study recommends that every universities ad schools should have student centered facilities to asses these individuals such as guidance center facilities wherein there are peer to peer counseling that would help these trouble individuals apprehend their situation.
