Online teaching efficiency rating system for Mindanao State University-General Santos City

Abstract / Excerpt:

The On-line Teaching Efficiency Rating for Mindanao State University-Gen. Santos City focuses on the automation of the evaluation process. This is an alternative to the traditional method that would considerably decrease the costs incurred by the paper system, eliminate transcription errors brought about by manual processing, reduce staff workload, save time in the calculations of data and provide an expeditious release of results of the rating for faculty review. The web-based system is dynamic with PHP as the primary language for development. Apache web server hosts the pages and MySQL is its back-end database. Only two types of users - the administrators and respondents - are allowed access to the system through user count validation. The respondents are the students, peers and supervisors that provide input data to the system and the administrators are the users that are granted full viewing access of the Teaching Efficiency Rating results and they can generate the summative report. Both users are given a system-generated username and password to be used for initial log-in and they also have the option to change their passwords.Student respondents are only able to access Form I and they are only allowed to evaluate courses that they are currently enrolled in. Peers can access Form II and Supervisors can access Form III, and both are only allowed to evaluate the faculty members within the department or college. Moreover, the respondents are anonymously inserted to the database to preserve confidentiality and the respondents are restricted from doing multiple evaluations of the same course or faculty. Finally, the students, faculty and staff who participated in the system testing generally viewed the system more positively than the paper evaluations.
