Abstract / Excerpt:
The researchers conducted the study because it has caused a wide array of damage and the researchers seek to answer their curiosity regarding the diseases that the respondents might or might not acquire during an immediate, unprepared natural disaster. This study is anchored on the environmental theory by Florence Nightingale. The basis of the theory is inter-relationship of a healthful environment with nursing external in?uences and conditions can prevent, suppress, or contribute to disease or death. She stated in her nursing notes that nursing "is an act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist him in his recovery" (Craven, 2003). In the study, the descriptive approach was used. The researchers formulated four statements. Statistical tools that were utilized were frequency distribution and percentage as well as t- test. Data were gathered and manually calculated. After results were achieved, interpretation of data was done. Subsequent to the gathering, collation and the analysis of the data using the SPSS program, the researchers were able to put together a summarize report, conclusion and its recommendations. Health teachings were also provided. The results of the study show that there is a significant difference of the illness acquired by the children and there is no significant difference of the illness acquired by the adult residents, both before and after the flash flood.
