Modeling-modified approach using castle in teaching basic electricity and magnetism

Abstract / Excerpt:

ABSTRACT: The study aimed to determine its effectiveness in improving the academic achievement of second year high school students of the Philippine Science High School Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS-SMC) in Basic Electricity and Magnetism. Specifically, it aimed to find out if there is a significant difference between the mean gain scores of students taught with the modeling-modified approach using CASTLE in teaching basic electricity and magnetism and that of the traditional method. Sixty (60) students from second year level of PSHS-SMC, school year 2005-2006 were the respondents in the study conducted. Pretest and posttest composed of fifty (50) items were administered to the respondents. The mean scores and standard deviation were used to analyze the data using t-test and 0.05 level of significance. Using t-test, the null hypothesis was accepted because the significant level is less that 0.05. It was found out that the two means are significantly difference. THe mean gain scores of the experimental group was significantly higher than of the control group. Based on the results, modeling-modified approach using CASTLE in teaching basic electricity and magnetism is more effective in improving the academic achievement of second year high school students that the traditional method.
