Maximum utilization of backyard by food always in the home (faith) gardening

Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: One of the author's basic aims is to extend her knowledge which was acquired from the training she had in Ateneo de Davao University agricultural extension services, Sinuda, Kitaotao, Bukidnon, to the farmers. She also aims to convince them to plant vegetables in order to solve the problems on malnutrition and low income.
Methodology: This study was made possible by the observations done during field exposures and the lectures contributed by the supervision of the Agricultural extension services personnels.
Summary: Most survey shows that majority of Filipino people are malnourished and this is because people are eating unbalanced diet. Most of them eat a lot of energy giving food and neglecting if not, have been taken less protein, vitamin and mineral giving food. Keeping vegetables at home is a great help for the family's health for these are good source to provide the proper plant protiens, vitamins and minerals needed by the body. Regular supply of vegetables is adequately achieve by doing Food Always In The Home (FAITH) gardening in the vacant spaces in the backyard. FAITH gardeing is simple and needs well-method of planting and planning a garden. This really gives a regular supply of vegetables for these are vegetables for there arevegetables to be planted and harvested in three months, six months and a year time. This increases one's knowledge in gardening for this undergoes many activities like crop rotation succession planting, compost making and others. By FAITH gardening, one can maximize the home lot spaces and planting also brings pleasure, provide a nice hobby; outdoor exercises and makes one experience the feelings of self-sufficient or partly so. This also makes one has a control over to what he eat particularly to have fresh wholesome food without additives or preservatives. Since, there is always food available in ones garden, one need not to buy and thus answer the problem of low income. Furthermore, one aim of this project is to add and supply the proper, complete, nutritious food serve in every Filipino family table.
